“So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.” (James 4:17) [ESV]
What Is Sin?
Sin is described in the Bible as transgression of the law of God and rebellion against God: “Everyone who makes a practice of sinning also practices lawlessness; sin is lawlessness.” (1 John 3:4) [ESV]
• It’s the opposite of God and good.
“The works of his hands are faithful and just; all his precepts are trustworthy.” (Psalm 111:7) [ESV]
• It’s the opposite of love.
“And because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold.” (Matthew 24:12) [ESV]
• It’s always selfish.
“For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice.” (James 3:16) [ESV]
• It’s always unbelief in who God is.
“(The Holy Spirit will show) that the world’s sin is unbelief in me.” (John 16:9) [LB]
Examples:

Fearful or Anxious | God’s promises |

Resentful or Bitter | God’s wisdom |
Carrying Guilt | God’s forgiveness |
