Loving Like Jesus

“Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the Emperor.” (1 Peter 2:17 )

  • Show people dignity.

Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. (Psalm 8:5 ) [ESV]

“You know it’s forbidden for a Jewish man to associate with or visit a foreigner. But God has shown me that I must not call any person common or unclean.” (Acts 10:28 )

  • Celebrate each other’s diversity.

“ 38But God gives it a body as He wants, and to each of the seeds its own body. 39 Not all flesh is the same flesh; there is one flesh for humans, another for animals, another for birds, and another for fish.  40 There are heavenly bodies and earthly bodies, but the splendor of the heavenly bodies is different from that of the earthly ones.” (1 Corinthians 15:38-40 )

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. (Galatians 3:28 ) [ESV]

  • We can’t love like Jesus if we’re not living in community with others.

“ By reading this you are able to understand my insight about the mystery of the Messiah. This was not made known to people in other generations as it is now revealed to His holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit: 6The Gentiles are coheirs, members of the same body, and partners of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel.” (Ephesians 3:4-6 )

“Jesus and the people he makes holy all belong to the same family. That is why he isn’t ashamed to call them his brothers and sisters.”  (Hebrews 2:11 ) [CEV]

  • We need to learn how to love.

“ 34 I give you a new command: Love one another. Just as I have loved you, you must also love one another. 35 By this all people will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”  (John 13:34-35 )

“ Let brotherly love continue. Don’t neglect to show hospitality, for by doing this some have welcomed angels as guests without knowing it.” (Hebrews 13:1-2 )

  • Reconciliation is part of loving.

Everything is from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation …” (2 Corinthians 5:18 )

The peacemakers are blessed, for they will be called sons of God.” (Matthew 5:9 )
