11 Dear friends, I urge you as strangers and temporary residents to abstain from fleshly desires that war against you. 12 Conduct yourselves honorably among the Gentiles, so that in a case where they speak against you as those who do what is evil, they will, by observing your good works, glorify God on the day of visitation. 13 Submit to every human authority because of the Lord, whether to the Emperor as the supreme authority 14 or to governors as those sent out by him to punish those who do what is evil and to praise those who do what is good. 15 For it is God’s will that you silence the ignorance of foolish people by doing good. 16 As God’s slaves, live as free people, but don’t use your freedom as a way to conceal evil. 17 Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the Emperor.”  (1 Peter 2:11-17 )

As Christians...

  • ...We are called for a bigger assignment/purpose than who will be president for the next four years!

We are Christians first and Americans second!

“ Dear friends, I urge you as strangers and temporary residents (aliens)  to abstain from fleshly desires that war against you.”  (1 Peter 2:11 )

A change in leadership doesn’t mean a change in our purpose!

“Conduct yourselves honorably among the Gentiles, so that in a case where they speak against you as those who do what is evil …”  (1 Peter 2:12 a)

  • ...We don’t win or lose based on who gets elected to an office!

We do what’s right, even when the world is doing what is wrong!

“... they will, by observing your good works, glorify God on the day of visitation.” (1 Peter 2:12 b)

With dark days come great opportunities!

Everything that is wrong with our world today is rooted in a spiritual problem!

The church is God’s answer for the world’s problems!

“For it is God’s will that you silence the ignorance of foolish people by doing good ” (1 Peter 2:15 )

  • ...We are to honor the position even if we disagree with the person!

““ 13 Submit to every human authority because of the Lord, whether to the Emperor as the supreme authority 14 or to governors as those sent out by him to punish those who do what is evil and to praise those who do what is good … 17 Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the Emperor.”  (1 Peter 2:13-14 & 1 Peter 2:17 )

Honor: to regard with great respect. So, when you honor someone,

you are showing them respect.  To choose to look at the good instead of the bad.

How To Honor Our President:

I show respect for the office and the person because they have been ordained by God.

I refuse to slander any public office or official.

I am to pray for my president/elected officials.

* When you dishonor someone, it doesn’t reveal anything about them,

but it reveals everything about YOU!
