Mission Accomplished!
John 4:34 & John 19:28-30 by Ruben Ortega
Series: I Am The Door

I Am The Door – Part 1
April 5, 2020 – Palm Sunday

Jesus: “Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work.” (John 4:34 )

28 After this, Jesus, knowing that all was now finished, said (to fulfill the Scripture), “I thirst.” 29 A jar full of sour wine stood there, so they put a sponge full of the sour wine on a hyssop branch and held it to his mouth.  30 When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished (tetelestai),” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.” (John 19:28-30 )

What Did Jesus Accomplish On The Cross?

  1. He paid the penalty for my sin and canceled my debt!

For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.” (Romans 8:3-4 )

“Therefore he is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance, since a death has occurred that redeems them from the transgressions committed under the first covenant.” (Hebrews 9:15 )

“… by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. (Colossians 2:14 )

“And being made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him …” (Hebrews 5:9 )

  1. He defeated the fear of death!

“For if, because of one man's trespass, death reigned through that one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ. (Romans 4:17 )

14 Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, 15 and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery.” (Hebrews 2:14-15 )

  1. He broke Satan’s power to ruin my life!

He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son …” (Colossians 1:13 )

  • Since I have been delivered, I now can resist temptation!
  • Since I have been delivered, I now can reject condemnation.
  1. He created a spiritual family of all races!

14 For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility … So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God …” (Ephesians 2:14 & 19)

  1. He guaranteed my salvation forever!

“And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. (Philippians 1:6 )

“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God.” (Ephesians 2:8 )
