What is a Disciple?
Matthew 28:16-20 & Acts 1:8 by Ruben Ortega
Series: Messages

Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted. And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:16-20 emphasis added)

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” (Acts 1:8 )

YOUR responsibility as a disciple is to …

… be available to God.
… have an intimate relationship with God.
… abide under the authority of God.
… live for God’s agenda.
… wait on the assurance of God.

MY responsibility to you as your Pastor is to …

… teach you how to be a Jesus follower.
… teach you how to make a disciple.
… help you to discover your ministry calling.
… inspire you to engage the world for Christ.
… hold you accountable and encourage you.
… assist you in missional opportunities.
… be an example to you.

It is NOT my responsibility to …

… to let you live in immaturity.
… enable you to be a consumer.
… expect you to live oblivious/in ignorance to your God-given call.
… allow you to hide your light.
… turn your focus solely inward to the church.
