12 And again, Isaiah says: The root of Jesse will appear, the One who rises to rule the Gentiles; the Gentiles will hope in Him. 13 Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you believe in Him so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 15:12-13 )

12 When He heard that John had been arrested, He withdrew into Galilee. 13 He left Nazareth behind and went to live in Capernaum by the sea, in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali. 14 This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: 15 Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali, along the sea road, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles! 16 The people who live in darkness have seen a great light, and for those living in the shadow land of death, light has dawned. 17 From then on Jesus began to preach, “Repent, because the kingdom of heaven has come near!” (Matthew 4:12-17 )

We have…

  • … the hope of heaven.

“… the kingdom of heaven …” (Matthew 4:17 b)

God rules over all the world. “The Lord has established His throne in heaven, and His kingdom rules over all.” (Psalm 103:19 )

The world is broken and lost. 1 And you were dead in your trespasses and sins 2 in which you previously walked according to the ways of this world, according to the ruler who exercises authority over the lower heavens, the spirit now working in the disobedient.” (Ephesians 2:1-2 )

  • … the hope of the already, but not yet.

“… has come ...” (Matthew 4:17 b\c)

  • … the hope we bear.

“… near!” (Matthew 4:17 c)

  • … the hope of Christ.

“Repent because …” (Matthew 4:17 b)

12 And again, Isaiah says: The root of Jesse will appear, the One who rises to rule the Gentiles; the Gentiles will hope in Him. 13 Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you believe in Him so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 15:12-13 )
