13 Who is wise and has understanding among you? He should show his works by good conduct with wisdom’s gentleness. 14 But if you have bitter envy and selfish ambition in your heart, don’t brag and deny the truth. 15 Such wisdom does not  come from above but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. 16 For where envy and selfish ambition exist, there is disorder and every kind of evil. 17 But the wisdom from above  is first pure, then peace-loving, gentle, compliant, full of mercy and good fruits, without favoritism and hypocrisy. 18 And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace  by those who cultivate peace.”  (James 3:13-18 )

Wisdom from above is …

If I’m wise, I won’t compromise my integrity.

“He grants a treasure of common sense to the honest (godly). He is a shield to those  who walk with integrity.”  (Proverbs 2:7 ) [NLT]

If I’m wise, I won’t antagonize your anger.

“It is honorable for a man to resolve a dispute, but any fool can get himself into a quarrel.”  (Proverbs 20:3 )

If I’m wise, I won’t minimize your feelings.

“The tongue that heals is a tree of life, but a devious tongue breaks the spirit.” (Proverbs 15:4 )

If I’m wise, I won’t criticize your suggestions.

“The mind of the discerning acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks it.”  (Proverbs 18:15 )

  • … full of mercy and good fruits(James 3:17 e)

If I’m wise, I won’t emphasize your mistakes.

“Love forgets mistakes; nagging about them parts the best of friends.” (Proverbs 17:9 ) [LB]

  • … without favoritism and hypocrisy(James 3:17 f)

If I’m wise, I won’t disguise my intentions.

“The one who conceals hatred has lying lips, and whoever spreads slander is a fool.”  (Proverbs 10:18 )

“And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who cultivate peace.” (James 3:18 )
